A journey in the heart of Indigenous food knowledge in Kahnawà:ke

The Indigenous Gathering field trip invites participants to travel by bus to Kahnawà:ke, one of the Kanien’kehá:ka (Mohawk) communities that make up the Mohawk Nation. Guided by Kahnawà:ke Elders and knowledge holders, this experience offers a meaningful opportunity to gather in a way that is rooted in relationality, respect, and reciprocity. Participants will be welcomed into a way of knowing and being that reflects Onkwehon:we values, setting the tone for the days of the Forum to follow. This full-day field trip will include a visit to Tkà:nios – It Grows, a grassroots land-based initiative dedicated to rekindling our connection to the land, each other, and traditional foodways. Participants will also share a locally catered meal prepared with seasonal ingredients, featuring a culturally rooted menu that honours traditional flavours and the stories carried by the land.
