This inspiring opening session will be led by two renowned guests who will discuss health prevention and its essential role in society, what efforts are needed to move forward, and how healthy school food is essential for the adoption of a healthy lifestyle.
Bio:
SYLVIE BERNIER is the first woman to win an Olympic medal in Quebec (gold medalist for Canada in diving at the 1984 Los Angeles Games). Holding a bachelor’s degree in administration and a master’s degree in health promotion from McGill University, she has been committed to promoting healthy lifestyles for nearly 40 years, working with decision-makers and the general public. She is also a speaker and a spokesperson for healthy lifestyles in Quebec and chairs intersectoral healthy lifestyle committees, including the Table québécoise sur la saine alimentation (TQSA).
DR. CAROLINE QUACH-THANH is a microbiologist-infectious disease specialist, pediatrician, professor, researcher-clinician, and Canada Research Chair. She is currently the National Director of Public Health and Assistant Deputy Minister of Quebec’s Ministère de la Santé et des Services sociaux du Québec (MSSS). Dr. Quach has co-authored over 50 government reports, 19 book chapters, and has published more than 225 scientific articles. She has received numerous awards and distinctions throughout her career, including recognition as Distinguished Woman and one of Canada’s most influential women, the Distinguished Scientist Award, the Woman of Merit Award, and the Canadian Public Health Association Certificate of Merit.
