Teach Nutrition
Teach Nutrition is an initiative of the team of registered dietitian at Dairy Farmers of Canada. For over 20 years, Teach Nutrition has supported educators and teachers in their healthy eating education efforts. Through professional learning opportunities and practical classroom resources. The resources are tailored to the school needs, and they are aligned with health and education frameworks. Ultimately, these resources aim to foster food literacy by helping children and youth build knowledge, skills, and critical thinking related to food and nutrition.
The Evolution of Food Literacy: From Functional to Critical Conversations
The Dairy Farmers of Canada registered dietitians identified a need for a more meaningful, audience-specific definition of food literacy within their nutrition education programming. In collaboration with stakeholders, including registered dietitians, educators, teachers, and students, the Learning Together with Food framework was created. It acknowledges the interconnected and complex nature of food literacy in relation to ourselves, our environments, and our global community. The four pathways are strongly supported by both educators and current literature as fundamental components that impact an individual’s food literacy journey.
